Used on: the current mountain-bike rear Boost standard on most modern trail, XC and enduro frames.
12x148, known as Boost rear, widens the hub from 142 to 148 mm for a stiffer wheel and better tyre and chainring clearance. A 142 mm hub is 6 mm too narrow for a Boost frame. As with all thru-axles, confirm the thread pitch cut into the frame.
